Alexis Ohanian, the husband of tennis star Serena Williams, has social media buzzing after he confronted Stephen A. Smith over controversial comments he made about his wife and the couple's marriage.
On Thursday (October 9), Ohanian walked onto the set of ESPN's First Take and seemingly addressed the sports commentator over comments he made about Williams appearing in Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime Show.
“Stephen A. Smith, I think you had some marriage advice for me. Is that right?”
The moment, which unfolded live on air just before a commercial break, appeared to catch Smith off guard.
“Oh, I am not qualified. Marital advice? Oh no, not me," Smith said.
“You hadn’t been married before, right? Because I give advice to plenty of founders who want to build billion-dollar companies. And the reason I do that is because I build billion-dollar companies. So, I generally try to stay in my lane in the advice department," the Reddit co-founder responded.
The exchange came after Smith criticized Williams in February for crip-walking during Lamar's Super Bowl performance of "Not Like Us," a diss track aimed at Drake. Many interpreted Williams' appearance as a jab at the rapper, with whom she was once romantically linked.
Smith suggested that if he were Ohanian, it would be grounds for ending the marriage:
“If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his a–,” Smith said during a February episode of First Take. “Because clearly, you don’t belong with me… Bye.”
Social media users praised Ohanian for confronting Smith following his comments about Williams.
"I like how Alex Ohanian ran this back on Stephen A, like what was you saying bout me and mine cuz?!" one social media user commented.
"Stephen A’s face at the end 🤣🤣🤣 Cooked," another person wrote.
"Hahahahaha @stephenasmith never seen you so quiet," a third user said.
