Candace Parker And Her Daughter Become Part Owners Of Women's Soccer Team

Candace Parker and her daughter, Lailaa Nicole Williams, have become part owners of the National Women's Soccer League team Angel City FC in Los Angeles, California. In doing so, Williams and Parker join mother-daughter duo, Serena Williams and Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., who are also part owners of the team. Actresses Uzo Aduba, Eva Longoria, America Ferrera and Natalie Portman also own portions of the team. Athletes like P.K. Subban, Lindsey Vonn and Billie Jean King also make up the expansion team's ownership group.

“On behalf of the NWSL and our member clubs, we are thrilled to officially welcome Angel City Football Club, and this exciting and committed ownership group, to the league,” NWSL Commissioner Lisa Baird said.

“The soccer community in Southern California is filled with passionate fans of the game and I can’t wait to see them rally around their own team and help us continue to grow the NWSL.”

Angel City FC is set to take the field for the first time in 2022. They will be the city's first women's soccer team since the Los Angeles Sol disbanded in 2010. Reports indicate the the team will share a stadium with Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy.

“Lailaa and I are pumped! We are fans of Angel City FC already," Parker wrote on Instagram.

“Keep dreaming and Mommy [is] right here with you.”

The NWSL's 2020 season has been thwarted by the ongoing pandemic, but the league expects to return in 2021 before Angel City FC joins in the following year.
